AVN in foot

Hi!

I'm from the Netherlands. Today I am diagnosed with AN in my feet (big toes). Here is my story.

In november 2008 I woke up with a swollen foot. I thought I injured myself during sports. But after 1 week the pain was severe and the foot was still swollen. I decided to pay a visit to my doctor. First of all my docter thought of a fracture. They made photos in the hospital and they found AN in my left toe. Since than I'v been on crutches, in a wheelchair and more  from november 2008 till april 2009 . They told me that the AN is located just there and that I probably would have bumped into something in the past which caused this.  I do not remember such a thing. So..........

After some time another doctor decides to make an MRI of both of my feet. Today I got the news. AN in both feet (big toes)! So I bumped into nothing!  I am officially now an AN patient. But....here in the Netherlands I absolutely cannot find anything or anyone with AN in the toes!  My docter wants me to take rest till September 2009 giving my body the chance to fix the joint itself......if not, than surgery??

I did not  have any childrens diseases in the past, I am not on alcohol or long term medication and I did not have any fractures. Where does it come from???

I would like to know if anyone is familiar with AN in the feet (big toe) and what their experiences are. Is it treatable, can it cure?

Please anyone?

Regards,

Angela

AVN in Feet

I've had many problems with my feet because I have Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.  I've had 8 different surgeries removing joints, part of a toe because of osteomyelitis, everything except AVN.  How was yours diagnosed?  Were you offered any treatment other than rest?  What is your prognosis?
