Story Digest:
A writer for the Wall Street Journal documents his personal experience with a Birmingham Hip Resurfacing procedure. The author explains that Hip Resurfacing is a relatively new procedure invented in 1997 that so far has less than a 4% failure rate. Hip resurfacing became a popular alternative to total hip replacement in Europe and Asia, but it was only recently approved by the FDA for use in the U.S. (in 2006).
Avascular Necrosis Resources will write a full article interviewing a leading surgeon about how this procedure may benefit avascular necrosis patients in the near future. In the meantime, this article is a very interesting introduction to the topic.
