Just diagnosed with AVN in right shoulder
I am 70 years old and have a genetic collagen disorder called Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome.  Mine is the hypermobile type  which means that my joints are held together with damaged stretchy collagen.  This causes severe osteoarthritis and many joint replacements.  So far both thumb joints, both knees and my left shoulder have been replaced.
Today I had a x ray of the right shoulder which has given me pain for several years.  My rheumatologist has been injecting steroids into the joint to releave the pain.  HE finally did an x-ray which showed AVN.  He said there was no treatment other than replacement.  I do nothave good use of my left arm after that shoulder replacement and really don't want to have the right one replaced.
I would like to know if anyone else recently diagnosed was given suggetions to help prevent the worsening of AVN?

AVN Right Sholrder

I as well have been diagnosed with AVN of the right shoulder.    My Doctor has suggested Physical Therapy which I participate in twice a week. It has helped with my pain as well as some range of motion not much, But I feel a difference, not as stiff. Like yourself I was told by an specialist that I would need surgery. This for me isn't an option. Because of no insurance and I need this shoulder to work. I am a HVAC Technician.  So it is important for me to have my shoulder.      So if anyone knows of a surgeon that would operate Pro-bono or anything, Please let me know

AVN in shoulder

Looselinks,

I was just diagnosed with AVN in my knee and was told that with rest and no weight bearing the blood supply may be able to regenerate itself.   Have you discussed this option with your doctor?
