| Talus AVN |
In December 2008 after a ski holiday I noticed my big toe was numb. after 2 weeks of increasing shooting pains from the ankle through to my big toe I decided to see a docotor. I was quickly sent for an MRI believing I had Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome only to find out my problems were much worse. I turns out I have all of the following.
2cm Osteonecrosis Lesion on the Talar Dome
1cm Osteonecrosis Lesion on the Navicular
Osteoarthritis of the Talonavicular joint + a partial coalition
Tarsal Tunnel Syndrome (very very painful)
I had a core decompression in March 2009 and unfortunately this has made my symptoms worse. I have now been referred to a world leader in Free Vascularised Bone Grafts for Talar AVN... Not looking forward to the year or so of limited/zero weight bearing.
Does anyone have any experience with Free Vascularised bone grafts?
Thanks in advance
Carl Wilson

has no one replied to your post? I had a fvag almost a year ago and i am doing great! I went to Dr. nunley for it, and believe me it was worth the trip from OH. I see him next Monday for my one year check up. yes it has been a long year between the non weight bearing and the brace but if I am out of pain and can walk again without pain then it will have been all worth it.
I also had a cd that didn't work and left me in as much pain as I was before.

Who is performing your surgery and where do you live? I will keep everything crossed for you that it all goes well.

My first surgery (Core Decompression) was perfomed by Dr Stadellmann in Zurich Switzerland.
The next surgery, bone graft and fusion will be performed by Professor Hintermann in Basel Switzerland. Luckily for me Prof Hinternmann is a world leader in ankle disorders.. He even invented the most useful ankle replacement (Hintegra)
Thanks for the well wishes...
Cheers
